The cresset, a fire basket, used by our cooper to set the bent oak casks into the traditional barrel shape, has always been a focal point for our coopers and brewery workforce, especially on colder days around which they would stand for rather longer than perhaps they ought to keep warm! Cresset Ale is brewed using local Barley, Wheat, Oats and Rye blended with a subtle Fuggle dry hop to give a beautifully subtle, fruity and mellow ale.

Half pint handpull, 4%. Dark gold to light copper color, clear, soft creamy white head. Some faint hoppy and aley notes on the nose. Aroma has a thin maltiness with some fruity notes, soft hoppy counterpart, taste sweetish, flat. Minimal carbonation, extremely easy to drink, smooth, watery, but somewhat tasteless.

Cask handpull at Cherry Tree Canterbury. Very hazy gold apparently it hadn’t settled yet. It’s actually ok. A light bitter. Nothing special but not offensive either. Needs condition and to clear.

On the 3rd Oct 2013 my wife and I had 22 half-pints between us at the 35th Telford Beer Festival: this was one of those 22. Hand-pulled, deep golden body with a good, full white head. The nose and taste were both slightly malty and fairly sweet. Fruity notes appeared as the beer warmed in the glass and ’barley sugar’ came to mind flavour wise. Easy to drink and we’d have had another if we hadn’t been on a mission (there were 34 hand-pulls to choose from).
