Hand-pulled pint into a UK sleeve on 26 Apr 2013 in my local Wetherspoons. Dark amber, leaning towards mahogany in colour, clear with an un-even head of off-white scummy bubbles for a head. The aroma sends out a hop message, the taste however is malty: a bitter hop finish rounds off the flavours nicely, even if it is at odds with the rest on the drink. This is more complex than it appears and is different and almost strange in its make-up. I’ve had it before and don’t remember the mood swings in the taste, difficult to dislike, but I didn’t really enjoy it either.

Cask at the Cherry Tree, Catthorpe - 16/05/12. Clear amber, thin white head. Mild hop aroma - pretty boring. Fruit taste, dull malt flavour, medium bodied and generally zzzzz boring.

(Cask at Market Porter, Borough, London, 30 July) Colour is amber with a short frothy head. Nose is malty with dark, dried fruit (prunes, dried apricots). Taste is malty and nutty with dried fruit (prunes, raisins), initially sweet but turns drier in a mildly hoppy finish. Well balanced and fairly ok.
