Sample during Blarney Wine Festival on 03/17/2012. Pours a clear dark amber color with a medium thin off-white head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lace. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, fruit and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, vinous fruit and piney hops. The finish is sweet with a grainy malty aftertaste. Holding up well after a couple of years, still a good Barley Wine.

Bottle, 2010 vintage. Ruddy orange-red-brown body, thin clumping beige head. Deep, robust caramely nose with notes of brown sugar, prune, and alcohol, warming, rich and prickly. Caramely body with prune and raisin in addition to dusty, earthy, faded hops and hints of alcohol, a tad oxidized but not terribly so. Overall, it’s a pretty good rendition.

This brew pours a deep brownish-amber color with a medium foamy light beige head that diminishes slowly. Sticky rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark malt, overripe fruit and hops. Rich body with flavors of toasted malt, dark fruit, hops and toffee. The finish is full and malty with a lingering toasted bread and fruit aftertaste. Solid Barley Wine from start to finish.

Bottle from a trade with cbkschubert. 2008 vintage. Pours clear copper color with thin khaki head. Aromas of caramel, toffee and booze. Flavor is sweet but not cloying. Caramel and toffee with some dough. The alcohol is evident, but doesn’t seem like 10%. Thick, viscous body with minimal carbonation. Excellent! Thanks Craig.

22 ounce bottle, 2008 vintage, courtesy of kramer quite some time ago. Lemme see... I’ve had this since July 2009 myself. Pours a clear dark brown color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of toffee, caramel, earthy hops and berry-like fruits. The taste is toffee, bitter hops, caramel. Medium-full bodied. Nice barleywine.

2008 Vintage enjoyed 09/02/09 Pours a dark amber bordering on brown with ruby highlights and a big fluffy beige head that leaves lots of lace on the way down. Smells of citrus hops, caramel, toffee, alcohol, some dark fruit hidden in the back as well. Tastes of caramel up front, some dark fruits in there quickly before the hop bite hits which segues to a bit of alcohol burn and bitter hoppy aftertaste. Mouth is sticky and sweet, carbonation is moderate, the body is pretty thick. Its a good malty barleywine although still a little hot. If the alcohol tones done a bit this one would be great. Maybe in a year or two I might have the opportunity to revisit.
