Alaskan Barley Wine has been produced in limited edition vintages each year since its introduction in 2003. A big beer for big winters, this brew has garnered a steady following in Alaska. Bottled for the first time in 2007, the balanced flavor collaboration between hops, malt and high alcohol showcases the barley wine style, winning first place at the 2007 Toronado Barley Wine Festival and bronze at the 2008 World Beer Cup.

Bomber, 2007 vintage. Dark fruit, figs, raisins, and port in the nose. Flavor of lots of cherries, dired fruit, candied, brandied fruit. Reminiscent of both plu pudding and cherry coke. Very nice.

Vintage 2007, 2 years old; got it through a generous trade
It pours a dark color, almost black, with a creamy head. Intense malt aroma, caramel, chestnut honey, a bit nutty, and finally hops; perfumy, there is also very light vanilla and very light tobacco. Full bodied, it has a rich malt flavor, very sweet, almost syrupy, with sticky caramel and sweet nuts; perfect bitterness level, with some hidden hop qualities. The final is well balanced, with some warmth deriving from the alcohol, still sweet but with a darker shade of caramel.
Mature, bold; it has the malt intensity of a Thomas Hardy, more bitter, even if not extreme as other West Coast Barley Wines. Lovely.

Bottle @ Cervezageek - smagning, Odense. Pours dark brown with a small creamy bubbly white head and lacings. Sweet malty and fruity nose. Vinous and smooth. Lots of caramel/toffee and a bit of alcohol. Full bodied. Sweet. A sipper. A classic Barley wine. Nice.

Red brown with a lasting off-white head. Aroma is fruity with lots of vineous alcohol. Sweet and fruity flavour with caramel malt. I found it rather simple, although well brewed.

Bottle with thanks to mj (2007). Has a nice tawny body and a slowly forming head of dense tan foam. Aromas are thick and sweet... lots of dark fruit and brown sugar maltiness with just a hint of oxidation maybe, but it is very faint. Flavor is a very good mix of dark fruits (figs, dates, raisins, and wine grapes) with malt (brown sugar). Mouthfeel is kind of sticky and alcohol is present both in terms of warmth and a bit of a finishing kick almost like brandy or something. This is pretty good and I’d love to try a fresher bottle to see how it compares.
