Born to travel, and known for its robust character, this style originated in the 19th century and has long been a part of our lineup. Seven types of malt contribute to a dark beer that has notes of espresso, bittersweet chocolate, and nutty toffee with a moderately dry finish. Slightly higher in alcohol than a Dry Stout or a Milk Stout, this beer has a warming quality well suited for the winter months.
Malts: Maris Otter, Roast Barley, Pale Chocolate, Flaked Barley, Black Malt, C-40, C-80
Hops: Nugget

On keg at the Hanging Bat. Appearance - close to black and opaque. Decent fawn head. Nose - blackberries and light liquorice. Taste - blackcurrant and a general melange of black fruit. Blackberry, raisins maybe even black cherry. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long elegant finish. Overall - liked this a lot.

Dark brown. Aroma has a lot of cocoa. On the palate, nice cocoa, chocolate, and maybe a bit of nuttiness. Nothing FES about this; it’s just a mid-range American stout.

On tap at Reuben's, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out roasted malt upfront, followed by a touch of espresso. Flavour is rich and robust, with lots of espresso and roasted malt dominating. Robust body, with everything in balance. Excellent.

Tap at the brewery. Dark brown color with tan ring. Aroma is coffee, hints of petrol, motor oil, black chocolate, very aromatic. Taste is coffee, black chocolate, earthy, very "motor-oily". Rather carbonation that does not fit. If it weren’t for the carbonation, this would be an excellent Foreign Stout! This way, it’s still very good.

Draft pour at Reubens. Pours a dark brown color with a thin head. Robust roasted malt aroma. Flavor is sweet malt, chocolate, and vanilla hints. Roast linger. Easy drinking, good addition to the style. Enjoyed this.

Sampler. Black body. A little coffee and a lot of bitter malt. But clean and dry. Flavor has faint prune but again very bitter black patent malt. Long bitter finish. Too much black patent.
