‘Pilsener’ by this old brewery in Hulst, Zeeland, which I have visited on several occasions when I still lived close to the Belgo-Dutch border; this bottle comes from the Plus supermarket in Breskens, though. Snow white, membrane-lacing, large-bubbled, moussy, slowly dissipating head; initially clear pale straw blonde robe (very pale in fact) with visible sparkling, turning misty and a tad deeper golden blonde further on. Aroma of wet leftover dough, damp straw, withering grass, wet white paper, raw potato juice, minerals and something vaguely sweaty. Neutral onset, fizzy and minerally carb; slender, grainy body with somewhat sourish undertone which persists till the end, with a ‘wet towel’-like effect thinly draped over a feeble and simple cereally core. Floral hops add mild but adequate end bitterness, a bit grassy in the end, while these sweaty and sourish aspects persist, preventing the beer from becoming truly refreshing – and exactly that, in my humble opinion, is what plagues it. Nevertheless it does have a genuine and ‘pure’ kind of feel to it, which I can certainly appreciate, in comparison with the mass-marketed ‘macro lagers’.

Helder lichtgeel bier met schuim. Smaak is licht bitter hoppig en licht fruitig met iets van graan en wat citrus. Standaard bier.

Fles gekocht in Burg Haamstede, thuis geprobeerd. Het is een goudgeel bier met een volle witte schuimkraag. Het heeft een moutige geur en smaak.

Bottle thanks to Inoven @ home. Clear slightly pale golden color, very quickly diminishing white head. Smell and taste malts, slightly metallic hints, bitter. Not much flavor or aroma to it. Average body and medium carbonation. Drinkable but unsurprising pilsener.

Flesje gedeeld met Tom. Goudgeel helder bier met weinig schuim. Aroma is nauwelijks aanwezig, iets hoppig, iets moutig. Smaak is hoppig. Nasmaak is bitter.

25cl Bottle brought from Zeeland, thanks H&T! Not sure where it’s brewed. Clear golden colour, white head. Aroma of sweet pale malts, light floral, almost skunky, hint of metal, corn. Flavour is medium-sweet, light malty, floral, light skunky, light bitter finish with a bit of iron. Light-bodied, soft mouthfeel. OK-ish.
