The Solera project continues with a Aberfeldy 18 year sherry butt being filled with Inertia Imperial stout. This was added to the base mix of Tripel and General Classification from the previous batches, adding a greater balance of roasted malt and caramelised sugar, leading to muted sherry notes, spice, a slightly tart sharpness and a tannin filled finish.

440 ml can. Pours a very dark brown with no head. Aromas of vinous blackberries and slick roasted malts. Flavors of oaky sherry, soy sauce, muted dark chocolate and oily toasted malts. An interesting curry spice finish - though maybe that’s from the glass…

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours darkest brown to black with a small khaki / tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, dark chocolate, rocky road, tangy jammy berry, sherry, fruit compote, blackberry cordial, gateaux, charred oak, damp wood, cacao nibs, liquorice, fruity whisky and dull campfire smoke. The taste is tart and tangy upfront, great depth of jammy fruits, blackberry, blackcurrant jam, raspberry, victoria sponge cake, vinous, red wine, sherry, damp booze soaked oak, chocolate cake, rocky road, light vanilla, toasted marshmallow, toasty, roasted malt, toothy, fizzy cherry cola bottles, whisky, dull toffee, liquorice and a touch of tannin with a dry, toasty & jammy finish. Medium - fulsome body and fine, prickly carbonation. Incredible depth of flavour. Sour, fruity, jammy and toasty. Whisky character is well integrated into the mix. Nice work 6DN.
