We brew our beer in New York, about halfway between the hop fields of the Pacific Northwest and the hop fields of Kent, England. So we use earthy English hops to build the foundation and bright citrusy American hops to bring the noise in the rambunctious IPA we call BLAST! British Maris Otter and German Pilsner malts lends solidity, balance and bready flavors to brace up a beer that’s beautifully hoppy, strangely quaffable and oddly compelling. Minerally hop bitterness is followed by a shock wave of flavor and aroma. You won’t even know what hit you.

Bottle shared at the Ale House, Chelmsford. Pours a cloudy amber colour with a small white head. Aroma of hop, caramel, bread and sweet malt. Medium sweetness, bitterness comes through. Very drinkable but not got the wow factor this style can deliver.

Bottle. Golden orange color. Aroma of peachy caramel and citrus. Taste of peach, orange, sweet caramel and mild citrus. Quite malty, it’s a bit folder I think. Still nice.

Brooklyn’s IIPA with stable, moussy, off-white, thinnish head and light peachy blonde colour, hazy. Aroma of orange peel, grapefruit, biscuit, green apple, lemon zest, flowers, dry white wine, kiwi, lemongrass. Crisp, restrainedly fruity onset, hints of mango, lychee and kiwi, supple body with soft carbo, smooth lightly caramelly malt base, bit bready, very pleasant and well in balance with the hoppiness in the finish, which provides a ton of citrusy and floral aromas retronasally; bittering power, however, remains fairly limited for the style. Not too abrasive even for a double IPA, more on the elegant, balanced side of the style.

(Keg at OlutExpo 2015) The beer poured golden and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness and sweetness. Palate was meidum bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, malts, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, hoppy and bitter. A balanced and easily drinkable hoppy pale ale. And Sorachi Ace was well hidden, good.

From a 355ml bottle on 15/10/2015. Pours a medium golden with a small white head. Has a quite strong, dense fruity, syrupy aroma. Flavour wise, it’s not at all typical of a DIPA - there’s heaps of sweet and sour citrus fruit, with the flavour quite dense and a touch boozy. There’s biscuit and caramel malt, a touch of spice, and a decent dash of hops, but it’s quite light on bitterness wise for the style. The palate is a touch syrupy and the carbonation soft. Interesting enough, but not a home run for mine.

Mycket gott!
