For the first time ever, we’re digging into the Proprietor’s (Chicago-only release) vault and bringing back a fan favorite with Bourbon County Fourteen Stout. But this time, it’s with a twist. We’re paying homage to the popular Proprietor’s 2014 recipe, but upping the rye ante by adding rye to the mash bill. Layering cassia bark, cocoa nibs, panela sugar, and coconut water, this stout has an intricate, sweet and spicy flavor profile that will have fans going back sip after sip.

Bottle from the basement.
Inky black with a thin tan head that slowly dissipates. Sweet rich sticky chocolate roast with bits of Bourbon and warming. Sweet sticky caramel and an earthiness that reminds me of graham. Sipper for sure.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a dark brown foamy head with some retention and some lacing notes. Aroma of chocolate notes with some bourbon/vanilla and some cinnamon notes. Taste is also a mix of chocolate notes with some bourbon/vanilla and cinnamon notes and faint residual sugar notes. Body is full with an oily texture and good carbonation with no discernible alcohol notes. Very well balanced barrel-aged stout with a mix of bourbon notes and cinnamon/pastry notes.

0,5l bottle at home. Vintage 2021. BB 23.09.2026. black color, tiny dark coffee colored head. Smells spices, cassia bark, vanilla, coconut, wood. heavy on the cassia, very nice smell. full body, light carbonation. Tastes cassia bark, spices, light cinnamon, vanilla, coconut, some bourbon, marzipan, nutty. Finishes light to medium sweet with notes of spices, nuts and vanilla notes. heavy on the cassia, but overall good complexity and very good to drink, especially once it warms a bit. very nice one.

Pours jet black with a light tan head. Loads of chocolate, coffee, cinnamon, coconut, little vanilla. Really well balanced with just a hint of booze. Cracking.

Wishing I was at Rare Day this year, so digging into my Bourbon County vault instead. Loaded with cinnamon and cacao, getting big Mexican hot chocolate vibes. This one is lovely and has aged very well.

(Keg at Barski Helsinki, 20231201) The beer poured oily and black. Its head was small and lightly brown. Aroma had burnt malts, vanilla, cocoa nibs, wood and dark chocolate. Palate was full bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, dark chocolate, vanilla, wood, cocoa nibs, cinnamon and bitterness. Aftertaste had wood, cocoa nibs, cinnamon and bitterness. A pleasant burnt brew with a little bit too much adjuncts.
