Rum Barrel-Aged Belgian Tripel
It could have been a single, but it’s so much more. This rum barrel aged
Belgian Tripel is named for the 3 Bagger -- the true team player, the
go-getter, the unabashed risk-taker -- the one who knows when to stretch
something good into something even better. Call it experience, call it
skill or call it pure animal instinct, the three-bagger knows when his time
has come and rises to the occasion. Take your turn with this well balanced
golden straw colored ale, which is full of complex fruity esters, dark rum,
vanilla and oak flavors.

From a 12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear copper with a scant off white head. Aroma of booze and toffee. Flavors of caramel and butterscotch. Sweat and smooth finish.

Bottle. Amber, low head. Way too many wood chips, you only taste the barrel notes. Perfumed honeyish, granny with gunpowder aftertaste. Not my taste.

Golden color with white head. Aroma is rhum and sugar. Taste is rhum, rhum, and more sugar. Way too much Barrel, no beer behind it. Still a high carbonation. Crazy and overdone.

Sample at SBWF 2015. Amber with a small head. Quite sweet with malt, bread, some dried fruit and warming alcohol. Also some vanilla. The body was medium.

12oz bottle I got in the Locals Why The Hell Not BIF pours a clear orange with some frothy, lacing white head. Nose has some bruleed pineapple, candlewax, a little apple juice concentrate, over ripe papaya, guava smoothie, sorbet. Flavor is alright, sweet candy sugar, faint rum, mild spice, a little pepper, a little anise, apples, poached pear, a little riesling, brown sugar, super ripe pineapple, guava, a little bit of over ripe jack fruit, some rum, a little bourbon, some mild canned corn. Full bodied, sticky, boozy finish. I thought this would be a train wreck, but I actually really enjoyed this.

I like rum and I like trippels but this doesn’t work. Pours golden with OK head and lacing. Lots of rum and only light sense of florals or coriander. Finishes barrelly and boozy bitterness. Bottle shared by someone via Jerry at Churchkey.

Growler from Patrick. Pours a dark reddish-brown, with a very small, tan head. The aroma is caramel, vanilla, oak, some bready yeast, and molasses. Very sweet, with a very light hop bitterness. Medium to heavy body, creamy, and sticky. Overall, this is a fair beer, with a nice barrel conditioning. The rum barrel is very forward, and it is difficult to pick out much of the base beer.
