Barleywine Ale Aged in Bourbon Barrels with Maple Syrup
This dry English Barleywine, created with our friends at Chicago Maple, rested for one year in freshly emptied maple syrup bourbon barrels before being sweetened with that same syrup just prior to packaging. Subtle maple aromatics and flavor complement the classic vanilla and toffee notes we’ve come to expect without detriment to balance. Enjoy now or store cold

Barle Wine tasting, Bratislavka. Brown color with beige head. Aroma is mainly maple, light caramel, chocolate, nougat, alcohol. Taste is extremly sweet with maple, raisins, light nougat, touch of chocolate. Warming alcohol. For better drinkability coud would be better, if beer would be less sweeter.

12 oz can. Aroma is soft maple with a touch of bourbon. The flavor is similar to a maple candy dipped in bourbon. Bourbon also cuts the sweetness. Just enough acid and oak for balance. Pretty delicious!!

Can (12/6/21) vintage from Lighthouse Liquors. Lightly hazy honey brown, tons of sparkle, ring of head, no lacing. Aroma is strong bourbon, caramel, maple, toffee, shades of vanilla. Taste is strong caramel, maple, bourbon, dark fruit, late vanilla. Smooth, creamy texture, soft carbonation, slight alcohol, finish as taste. Good complexity and balance. Very nice even after all these years.

Very little
Maple
On the nose, but super syrupy and sweet maple in the mouth. Light vanilla from the barrel, melted caramel candies in maple syrup

Can shared. Clear mahogany. Massive vanilla, bourbon, maple, alcohol, fresh wood, oak, toffee, eucalyptus, more sugary. Very sweet, light bitter. Over medium bodied. Nice, bit super sweet.

Can from Peders drunk at home 24/06/2024 Sweet and toasted malty with layers of maple and toffee malty sweetness, some brown sugar, spices, nice body and mouthfeel with some great bourbon coming though, more maple and a lick of vanilla into the sweet malty finish. Top drawer.

12 ounce can from Tavour. Canned on 12/06/2021. Radiant garnet colored pour. Brief tan head quickly dissipates to a short lived ring. Aroma brings notes of toffee, maple and buttery malt. A hint of oak, as well. First sip is immediately sweet and boozy. I can feel the warming alcohol in my chest. Yes, there is lots of maple flavor here. The complexity is limited due to the excessive sweetness. Perhaps that could change with some additional aging. In any case, this is a decent barleywine that is best sampled in a small sample. The 14.4% ABV is barely discernible.
