Oaty aroma with hay and some cocoa. Flavour has oat, some toffee, butterscotch and ripe fruits. Also some berries. Could not locate the barrell or whisky. Somewhat foamy palate. Like a mixture of oatmeal stout and scotch ale.

Keg at The Hanging Bat. Dark brown pour, creamy just-off-white head. Light aromas of toffee, caramel, fruit and nuts. Not getting much whisky on the nose or the taste. Lot of burnt sugar and malt sweetness in the taste. Clean finish. Nice beer.

Bottle from the brewery. Clear, dark, reddy amber. Thin, bubbly, lasting, pale tan head. Dried vine fruits. Some bonfire toffee. A hint of sour cherry. Any barrel aged character comes right at the end. Taste is burnt caramel sweet. Malt sweetness, too. Then a lightly smoked dryness. Dryness lingers as the maltiness comes through. Palate is soft chewiness. Woody, light bitterness on the finish. Boring it isn’t...

Keg at the hanging bat... Deep black... Thin tan lacing... Soft fruity chocolate... Big berry nose... Big roast... Dark roast... Dark malts... Little clawing... Very rich... Toffee fruits... Incredibly rich fruit tones... Nicer as it warmed up, but definitely an evening sipper
