This beer has nice fruity and spicy notes from the Belgian yeast used in fermentation. The chocolate and raisin flavors are well-balanced with a lingering dry finish. Excellent on a cold winter night and paired with heartier dishes like stews and roasts. Also excellent with chocolate desserts.

Bottle (label says bottled Nov 28 2016) shared with Johnny. Murky brown color, average sized beige head. Aroma is malts, plums, very fruity and some candy sugar. Flavor is malts, light caramel, plums, again quite fruity and definitely candy sugar notes in there. A bit sweet at first, a bit bitter in the finish. Very cool to finally be able to drink this one.

corked and caged 750ml from Irishboy, thank you!
Wow, the aroma is amazing. Ripe fruits such as plums, figs, apples, cherries, lots of malt, and loads of sweet caramel. Carbonation is very nice, and the flavour is out of the world! So much nice caramel/malty sweetness, laced with wondrful fruitiness. Wow. best belgian strong i have ever had, hands down.

Notes from May 2009 Spread vintage sampling, courtesy of some very generous & beautiful members of the community. :) Served in a snifter over good conversation. Batch 002: Muddy, oiled brown hide. Trailing stroke of sandy-colored head. Smell is slightly vinegar-y & buttered. A little apple, a little candied fruit & some rolled oats to dry it up. Maybe even a bit stinky. Best smelling batch of the three. Carbonation is about average. Body is watered down thin. Taste of boozy raisins & sharply fruity(but stuffy), red wine. A little papery, but less oxidation then batch 3. A cautious amount of soothing vanilla. Cider vinegar takes over right before the finish. Batch 003: Undisturbed pour, watered down wine consistency & color. A small, faint, wisp of head develops as the glass settles. Ash & sticky/pruney, dried up grape juice dominate the smell. A very thin mouthfeel. Slight to moderate burnt plastic & newspaper-like oxidation. Corky, tired wine & chalky yeast. Batch 008: Served immediately following batch 3. Lively pour. A little denser, but still with a red wine hue. Smell is still grape-y for me, but there is a solid amount of macerated grain & oak, along with a good bit of yeast. Alcohol is much more prevalent in this bottle. Taste is more grape skins then boozy wine. Dusty bread crust, & a noticeable amount of caramelization & macerated bananas. Nougat-like sweetness. Lots of drying wood notes, some bitter clove, & just barely tart. Again though, just really thin. Score is from the most recent batch. Aging & conditions keep the beer ranging from interesting to forgettable. A wonderful opportunity nonetheless. :) 02: 3.2 03: 2.0

Sötman större i doften än smaken. Torr och känns lättare än vad den är. Väldigt väl dold alkoholstyrka och storlek. Tillbakahållen, elegant belgian strong dark ale.

Draft at brewery. Near black pour, small ring of beige head. Aroma is yeast and roast malts. More yeast in the taste, kind of sweet, candy sugar. Some chocolate too. Some porter.

Draft at the brewpub. Dark pour. Aroma of yeast eaters, caramelised malt and nuts. Taste has soft hazelnut, ester, caramelised malt and a nice finish with some ripe fruit. Tasty.
