Artistraw Cider Kingston Black 2019 is a naturally sparkling, medium-dry, pure juice single-variety Herefordshire Cider, made from handpicked fruit gathered from three traditional orchards in the Grey, Golden and Wye valleys; all magical orchards in their own right and havens for wildlife and biodiversity. . Pressed in November 2019, it has been wild fermented and finished in the bottle pet nat style, and reflects the terroir of the Marches and the character of the fruit, with crisp acidity giving way to phenolic tannins.
Tom and Lydia started Atristraw Cider after moving to Herefordshire's Wye Valley in 2017. They discovered the name Artistraw in Kilvert's famous diaries, it being a local term for a shrew. Inspired by Normandy, they work with the seasons to make natural, full-juice cider and perry from local fruit, using minimal intervention techniques including cold racking for natural sweetness and bottle finishing to give a sparkle. They are rapidly gaining acclaim and won Highly Commended at the Royal Three Counties Cider and Perry Competition 2018.

750ml bottle from Orchard Explorers. Orange gold colour, afew short-lived bubbles on top and aroma of funky apple, woody. Taste is juicy, orchardy apple, fruity, woody, oak, some funk, bittersharp, with some tannin. Medium bodied, low carbonation, dry finish. Nicely balanced, very drinkable.
