Half-pint, cask ale after breakfast at Coronet (JDW). Good looking in the glass with crocheted lacing from a durable beige head, bright copper coloured body. Inviting caramel-chocolate aromas. Fine balanced taste of caramel and chocolate offset by moments of dark fruits. Rounded dark malt-fruity end. Clean on the swallow. Fits the season. (London, 06.12.2023).

Cask at the Hope and Champion, Beaconsfield. Poured a poured a clear dark reddish brown colour with a short-lived, frothy, off-white head. The aroma is light roasted malt, light chocolate. The flavour is light sweet, with an earthy, grainy, malt, red berry fruit, light chocolate palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask from the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. A mahogany brew with a beige head and a mild frothy fizz. Tiffee and dry wood and cream up front, sweetness develops with raisins coming through. A little pepper in the finish. Nice to have an old ale, it's a style I like but which has become hard to find.

Dark reddish brown in colour with a very small loose off white head that quickly disappeared. Malty with a light chocolaty aroma. Moderately sweet, some caramel and malt. A bit thin and watery; a light dry bitter finish. Not impressed.

Cask at the Prince Arthur (JDW), Fleet. Darkest mahogany in colour with a ring of beige head; aroma of Demerara sugar; rather thin and sweet in the mouth with a sugary caramel taste; then a dry finish with a touch of licorice.
