Our Abstrakt journey continues with AB:17; a three-coffee rye imperial porter. Big chocolately roasty malts, spicy rye, and more coffee than Twin Peaks - we’ve added espresso in the mash, cafetiere in the boil, and whole bean in the whirlpool and the FV. Courtesy of Has Bean, we’ve got a rich mix of spicy, bitter and heady coffee flavours mixing with the vanilla pods we threw in for good measure. AB:17 is in the final days of maturation and is almost ready for bottling. It is tasting incredibly smooth and decadent. A perfect winter beer?

Bottled@Kaisla, Helsinki. Pitch black colour, mediumsized beigeish brown head. Aroma is liquorice, ripe fruits, some toasted notes as well as some mild sourish edge to it. Flavour is quite similar, with a very nice chocolaty finish.

Attractive aroma of cocoa, chocolate and dark bread. Comprehensive taste profile including chocolate, seaweed, molasses, and a peaty touch. Lingering and warming finish. Full bodied. Lovely (shared with Finn Arvid at his place in Tromsø 22.08.2015).

Bottle, A black one, topped by a dense, tan head. Roasted aroma with cocoa, molassess notes, alcohol, dark toffee and some chocolate. It’s full-bodied, warming and with a very soft carbonation. Nice bitterness, roasted malts, coffee, dried fruits, toffee, licorice and some peppery hints. Lasting roasted, peppery and warming finish. Lasting finish. Quite wonderful this one, especially love the cocoa/chocolate. 150807

Bottle from Beers’n’more. Pours very dark but still brown, with a brown head and a beautiful lacing. Roast notes of coffee. The high ABV is well hidden among the many flavours, some vanilla and lots of bourbon. Still clearly a porter and not a stout. Quite short and light finish for such a heavy brew. A good beer for my birthday!
