Our Abstrakt journey continues with AB:17; a three-coffee rye imperial porter. Big chocolately roasty malts, spicy rye, and more coffee than Twin Peaks - we’ve added espresso in the mash, cafetiere in the boil, and whole bean in the whirlpool and the FV. Courtesy of Has Bean, we’ve got a rich mix of spicy, bitter and heady coffee flavours mixing with the vanilla pods we threw in for good measure. AB:17 is in the final days of maturation and is almost ready for bottling. It is tasting incredibly smooth and decadent. A perfect winter beer?

Bottle at Taps Beer Bar, Changkat, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin broken light tan head. The aroma is light creamy caramel, roasty malt, dry earthy. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter, light sweet with a rich, slightly oily, roasty malt, light dry coffee , alcohol liqourice bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Bottled 375ml. -Courtesy of kajser27, shared with him, Marko and franski. Pitch black coloured, minimal brown head, sharp alcohol and chocolate in the nose. Roasted malt, roasted peppers (?!), dark chocolate and some coffee with notes of vanilla, wood and alcohol in the finish.
Decent brew with or without roasted peppers, and yes...screw you guys, I don’t even like roasted peppers;)))

Shared with Marko, ogivlado and franski. Pitch black, small non lasting tan head. Aroma is of roasted peppers for some reason... with some roasted coffee beans. Taste is medium sweet dark chocolate, roasted coffee, some vanilla notes, strong coffee beans, somewhat boozy with accompanying warmth, quite strong roasted coffee bitterness. Full bodied, creamy, flat carbonation. Luckily no peppers in the taste... (bottle, Bierhalle Deconinck, Vichte)

Bottle (2648) courtesy of kajser, shared with him, franski and ogivlado. Almost pitch black, tiiiny tinge of amber, tiny tan head. Aroma.... roasted peppers. No really, roasted peppers, maybe very light coffee, but mostly roasted peppers. Possibly somehow caused by Ogi gnawing on the cork trying to get it out. Possibly. And some alcohol later on, possibly also caused by Ogi gnawing on the cork. Aaanyway... the taste... ya, flat, sweetish, coffee, medium alcohol, warming, light tart touch. Dried caramel. Nicely perfumey, and enjoyable beer, even though it’s hardly thrilling. Oh, and more roasted peppers. So probably not Ogi’s fault. Or hopefully. It does get better with each sip.

Sjokolade. Mandler. Behagelig. Alkoholen godt kamuflert. Et verdig punktum for alle ratingene produsert i hyggelig selskap på Rundvannet.
