Our Abstrakt journey continues with AB:17; a three-coffee rye imperial porter. Big chocolately roasty malts, spicy rye, and more coffee than Twin Peaks - we’ve added espresso in the mash, cafetiere in the boil, and whole bean in the whirlpool and the FV. Courtesy of Has Bean, we’ve got a rich mix of spicy, bitter and heady coffee flavours mixing with the vanilla pods we threw in for good measure. AB:17 is in the final days of maturation and is almost ready for bottling. It is tasting incredibly smooth and decadent. A perfect winter beer?

A whole array of complementary tastes, typical of the Abstrakt series. A soft low-carb tan head with an endearing coffee, cream, vanilla and milt chocolate nose. The taste profile balances out beautifully, featuring semi-sweet chocolate, roasted caramel malt, rich black berries, cream, implied rye and rich coffee. Underlying the taste elements is a warming booziness, a touch of underlying sourness, and the typically low level of carbonation allows a full appreciation of all of the subtle tastes.

Bottle tasted October 2018. Deep reddish brown with almost no head. Aroma has dark malt, dry fruit, coffee, soy, a bit spiced and smooth alcohol. Flavor is smooth, malty, vinous, dry fruit and mild roasted. Full bodied and long lasting aftertaste. Nice, quite boozy, big beer but in a fine way. I think some storage has done this beer well.
