This dark mahogany ale has a great and delicious malt depth, yet is balanced with supple, energizing bitterness.

Reviewed from notes.
Can to English pint glass.
Appearance: pours dark brown but looks more like black in the glass, two finger off white foamy head gave way and left some light lace
Aroma: earthy hops rub into some ash, dark malts, coffee roast, dark chocolate, some cocoa powder, and black licorice
Flavor: starts bitter running through mostly all of those prior noted aromas except the black licorice, then a semi-sweet note of the cocoa powder and a light spicy undertone from the black licorice; finishes earthy, bitter, roasty and sly touch of sweet
Texture: medium bodied, somewhat sessionable but the bitterness and the roastiness hits the tongue pretty hard on that bitterness aspect and this is also pretty dry.
Overall: this is an "old school" American porter, one not for the faint of heart as it's pretty hoppier and dry than the newer American porters in this day and age with more balance.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with medium retention recedes leaving spider lacing. Chocolate, licorice and soy aromas. Medium bodied with dark bitter espresso and cocoa upfront turning to licorice and earthy resin in the dry, lasting finish.

Pint can pours with a nice deep dark void of a body that supports a full light mocha colored head of foam. The aroma offers up pulses of chocolate brownie, dark roasted malts, some burnt malts and then soft malt balls into the end of the draw. The taste delivers smooth rich chocolate brownie, wow. To midway dark roasted malts, some burnt malts and a thin highly roasted coffee sensation rises up and takes over the experience. This is delicious.

Can. Dark brown pour with nice beige hued and steady foam top. Cocoa nose with some nice soft roast. Lots off toffee and milk chocolate. Taste is light and toasty, creamy roast, dry and some berries. Really great balance and dry lingering roasty finish. Kind of a perfect dry porter for me.
