Black Isle and Poppels from Sweden collaborated a year or so ago to make a fantastic imperial stout called Systems Theory. Since then the beer has been maturing in whisky barrels and is now ready to make a reappearance.
There are two versions – a West coast version (using Islay barrels which gives a peaty flavour) and an East coast version which has oak, vanilla and dark chocolate notes.

Bottle 33cl.@home poured into a pint glass. Pitch black with a ruby hue, fair frothy tan head, half-way lasting, thick creamy layer remains, fair lacing, Iodine nose, Aroma roasted malts, first overpowering peat/iodine, followed by light cocoa, alcohol notes, hints of smoke. Taste light light heavy sweet and light bitter, roast, peat, chocolate, candy sugar, vanilla, bit woody, alcohol. Full-bodied, sticky texture, soft carbonation, malty and roasty sweetbitter aftertaste, lingering peat notes, alcohol, rich and tasty, brute of a brew but very good.
