Cask at PoW, Farnborough. Not getting aroma. Appearance of flat cola and just as much head. Sweet. Malty. Some whispers of bitterness. Sugar, chocolate, nuts. Not as watery as it looks. It’s still light bodied but has a silliness and soft carbonation. Abrupt finish. Slips down easy but all a bit of an understatement.

33cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. A reddish chestnut colour with a thin beige head; malty aroma; and a straightforward, fresh malty taste; with some caramel to finish. A good old fashioned mild.

Cask at the Wellington Arms, Bedford. Dark chocolate brown, with a small white head. Low on aroma: a bit of wood and fig, along with a faulty and almost acrid note. The taste is better: sweet and chocolately with a lighter bitter note near the end. Bittersweet finish. Body is light, even watery, but that’s par from the course for this ABV.
