Raspberry Anne is inspired by the imaginative, talkative, red-haired protagonist of the Canadian novel, Anne of Green Gables. Assertive notes of raspberry, apple and oak end with a luscious, velvety finish. A west coast libation inspired by an east coast lass, we raise a glass to the Maritimer who once said bright red drinks “taste twice as good as any other colour”.

This fortified cider is created by pressing then fermenting BC apples to create cider. We then work with a Vancouver Island craft distiller to turn this cider into a cider spirit – which is sometimes called a cider eau de vie, or even apple brandy. Essentially, it’s a very high ABV cider spirit that is created by evaporating the water and leaving only the alcohol behind.

A small dosage of this cider eau de vie is then blended with BC grown raspberries and more cider before being transferred into 20 litre oak barrels to age. The result is an assertive oak-aged, fortified raspberry cider with a velvety, luscious finish.

375 ml bottle. Pours a garnet red. Aromas of raspberry jelly, red currants, and subtle sliced apple. Richer, more intense flavors follow same with emphasis on currants, plus additional honey and oak. There is also the additional rosemary/herbal flavors that other folks have noted. More subtle for me but just makes everything a bit more complex. Delicious!

Power tasting at Ferris', corked bottle
Burgundy colour, dark. Weird aroma, rosemary bread, raspberry jam. Sweet, full bodied, rich, raspberry jam flavour, with herbal tones, rosemary and heather.
Very good drink.

375ml @ Farees'. Appearance: deep purple with no head. Aroma: intense black and red currants with some raspberries notes. Taste: along the same lines but with a bit weird notes to me (related to the rosemary as per gang), very intense. Overall: good.

Reddish-brown. There's a rich raspberry fruit nose, bit of apple. On the palate, there's a rich oxidized sort of note, that brings out a meatiness. Soft, sweet and with some alcohol in there as well. Good stuff, got that dessert sweetness.

375mL bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany, no head. Aroma boozy, with plenty of raspberries, perfumey spirit, and bizarrely enough, rosemary. Flavour is loaded with syrupy raspberry, rosemary (seriously, a lot of it), and boozy oak. I can't shake the rosemary character, which doesn't ruin this, but it's definitely odd. Treacly, syrupy raspberry character, with lots of heat. Good stuff, but not top-tier stuff.

Re-rate: Poured from 375 mL bottle. Deep, dark ruby red with no head. Rosemary, red currant, touch of raspberry. Quite different from what i recall from my on tap brewery tasting, but still quite enjoy it. Oct 02, 2020 (8/3/8/3/15=3.7): Poured from the tap. Deep red. Very nice boiled down fresh raspberry syrup with nice apple notes. Mild booze.
