Vague grainy aroma. Grainy flavor with a hint of apple and a touch of bitterness in the aftertaste. A touch of soap. Bland.

Thnx to Tim. Great, an outdated industrial Inbev lager tick, yay! Pours clear blonde, médium small white head. Smell is stale, oxidative, honey like maltyness, sweaty. Taste is sharp. Very oxidative, still a mild bitterness. Cardboard. As to be expected, this is over it's 'peak'.

Clear golden colour, white head. Aroma of paper, malts and adjunct. Bitter, malty flavour. Bitter finish, paper. From what is probably one of the last batches ever made.
(from 25cL bottle shared @ chriso’s place, RBESG 2014. Thanks for the bottle, tderoeck!)

This was one of those beer brands artificially kept alive by AB InBev when it was still "the world’s local brewer"; anyone from the town of Aalst is familiar with it, but the days when this was a regional Pilsener have long gone. The sample I tasted (years ago) was already from InBev’s kettles and was a typical European standard lager, golden blond with a stable snow white head and a malt sweet profile with low but still quite ’honest’ herbal hop bitterishness in the finish.

Bottle from tderoeck, many thanks! Probably the last batch. Blond beer, white foam, disappears quickly. Medium carbonation. Light sweet and malty lager. Light bitterness. Easy drinkable but very watery. Not good.

24/IV/14 - 25cl bottle @ home - BB: 15/IV/14 (2014-384) Thanks to aunt Emmy for the bottle! Thanks to my uncle Jan and my nephew Thomas for getting it to Gent. :-)
Note: with a lot of my family living in Aalst, I've spent more than one Carnaval (Mardi Gras) going out on this beer. This was before I started rating of course. When I heard AB InBev was to stop production, I managed to get a hold of what is probably one of the last batches of Safir ever made, with the help of my family. :-)
Clear pale blond beer, aery irregular white head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: malts, sweet, grains, meh. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: pretty sweet start, quite a bit of citrus, soft bitterness. Aftertaste: sweet, little hoppy, some citrus, bit of cardboard, not bad in all. Probably better than regular Jup/Stella, but hard to say when not sampled blind.
