Hardywood Bourbon Cru is brewed in the fashion of the abbey quadrupel, the grand cru of many of Belgium’s revered monastic breweries. Bourbon Cru displays a sunset orange hue with a substantial head and brilliant clarity after months of barrel ageing. The maturity and melding of flavors brought on by the freshly drained, half-decade old Virginia bourbon barrels from Fredericksburg’s A. Smith Bowman Distillery lends an extraordinary sense of harmony to Bourbon Cru. Almond toffee and oaky vanilla aromatics give way to dark cherries, raisins and mature whiskey. A bit of plum flavor is greeted by caramel overtones and an assertive yet incredibly rounded body and a lingering, bourbon-laced finish.

Bottle courtesy of Craig (cheers Craig!) had this at Fairports Annual Reunion Festival, Cropredy Saturday 13th August 2016 Soft in the mouth, really warning, there is a nice carbonation to this , dangerously drinkable. Toffee and caramel and a little nuttiness, chewy and fruity there is also a little spice, it’s quite good. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6

Location: 750 ml bottle, 2014 Release, 5/22/15
Aroma: It has a strongly bourbon aroma, with some wood and vanilla as well
Appearance: It pours a clear reddish color without much head and some mild, spotty lace
Flavor: The flavor is really strong on the bourbon as well, it dominates the taste
Palate: Fairly full bodied, big and boozy, with a soft carbonation, and plenty of heat
Overall Impression: Definitely not a beer for those who don't like bourbon. I think it is a pretty solid example of the style, but I feel like a like balance could have been in order here.

Bottle in the hotel lobby, RBWG ’15, night 2 - 20/02/15 thanks to whomever shared this number. Rich amber with a moderately appointed beige covering. Nose is toffee, booze tunes, spice, dark malts. Taste comprises biscuit, toffee, sweet licks, hint of chocolate, dark fruits, light wood. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough quad, sweetness tempered with some bitter strokes, masks the ABV well.
