Bottle 500ml.Clear medium to dark brown color with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, dark berry, wood - tobacco, sugar. Flavor is heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a long to average duration, malt and sugar sweet. Body is medium, texture is oily and sticky, carbonation is soft. [20100428]

Cask at the Standing Order (JDW), Stevenage. Reddish copper in colour with a thin cream head; aroma of blackberries and autumn fruit; similar fruit flavours with some caramel malts to finish. Not bad for GK.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 8/04/10. Dark, reddish brown with next to no head. Aroma of caramel, dark fruit and a touch of roastiness. Flavour was similar with a long, bitter finish. Ok.

Cask handpump at The Penny Black, Bicester, JDW 10-04-10 with Craig & family Pours mid/dark brown in fact its chestnut in colour & there is good clarity with a small white bubbly head. Toffee & caramel coming off of what is sticky sweet, malty nose. The first beer that I had here at JDW’s that actually had a lot of taste, ok so it’s full of sweet malty flavour’s, with plenty of toffee, but there is dark alcohol soaked fruits there, its chewy and tasty, easily the best beer at JDW’s today. A6 A5 F7 P3 Ov13 3.4

Cask @ Counting House. Dark amber colour, small off-white lacings. Aroma is toasted malts and caramel. Flavour is toasted malts, licorice, dark fruits, nutty, caramel. Sour and slightly dry finish. Well drinkable.

Bottle. Reddish brown beer with a light head. The aroma is weakly roasted and the flavour is quite rich, roasted, and malty with a mildly bitter finish. Overall a nice beer.

500ml bottle from Morrisons/ Very dark brown colour. Bready aroma, some butter, diacetyl I think. Looks good though. Flavour has some decent fruit and brown sugar. LIttle bit of sting on finish. Bit sweet. It;s ok I suppose and a bit toasty on the malt. Sweet malt and ok if just uninspiring.

500ml bottle from Morrisons. Dark chestnut brown with a dense cream head; rich peppery malt aroma; smooth fruity flavour, rather thin with touches of smoke and treacle; sweet creamy caramel finish.

Bottle that I picked up from Morrisons, Aylesbury, Bucks, consumed 22-07-09 Pours a rich ruby colour with a beige head. Sticky malty and toffee on nose. The taste is toffee and sticky dark fruits with dates and prunes dominating, there is warmth from the alcohol and a gentle but nonethelesss steady bitterness. I haven’t checked my Suffolk Strong rating but I would hazard a guess that there are some strong similarities between these two beers. A6 A4 F7 P3 Ov14 3.5
