The original TSTBRW 2 (Imperial Stout) aged for 1 year in Whisky barrels. This was done in the old fermentation cellars under the brewery where music of Barry White plays 24/7. It was the fourth succesful barrel aged beer of Sven Dekleermaeker, the brewer who is famous for restoring the original recipe for the famous Antwerp Bolleke.

Imperial stout aged on Jack Daniels barrels by De Koninck – now under Moortgat – but only available from tap at their city brewery in Berchem, Antwerp. Cheers Steve! Creamy, medium sized, pale greyish beige, dense, slowly opening head; very dark mahogany brown robe with ruby red edges, so not entirely ‘black’ as one tends to expect from this style. Aroma of dried fig, walnut oil, fried black olives, indeed clear sweet and boozy Jack Daniels, caramel, armpit sweat (oddly), porcini, clear vanilla-scenting oak wood, dry clay, unsugared bubblegum, toast. Sweetish onset, old raisins and dried prunes, slight umami edge (dried porcini), softish carb, full and oily body; very slick caramelly, bit walnutty and lightly toasty malts dried by strong, vanilla-scenting oakiness mixed with quite pronounced leafy hops and warming, obviously bourbon-flavoured alcohol, long and warming but avoiding unpleasant astringency. Balanced, tasty, well-constructed stout, if very sleek and streamlined, as I suppose is to be expected from the industrial brewery behind it.

I Draught /I Head gone in secs to beige rim; near-black beer. Whisky/spirit nose; warm, sweet roast, aromatic, dried apples, dried fruit. Dry, roast, hint at bitterness; whisky flavour and a bit of coffee retronasal. Quite oily/slick, not very thick body. Low carbonation. Another good one from dK.

Glass from tap at the brewery. Thnx Sam and Sven ! Pours black, minor but dark head. Smell is intense, barrel, bourbon, tad sweet, roasty, full. Taste is likewise. Perhaps a tad to much barrel notes here, but a pleasant beer nevertheless. Thick body, low carbo,... All is in place here. Perhaps just a bit too boozy for me.
