Grand Cru started out as The Sultan. When we made this beer last year I filled 8 old Pinot Noir barrels and more or less forgot about it. To further enhance the funky character, I blended it with 2 barrels of a Flanders Red kinda thing, that has also been fermenting funky for about 18 months.

375mL bottle, pours a dark mahogany with a large, lingering foamy tan head. Aroma brings out tons of pinot noir barrel notes that dominates everything, followed by some tart red fruits, and wild yeast - very elegant on the nose. Flavour is no less elegant, with loads of funky wild yeast notes coming out in the front, along with the red wine notes. Subtler hints of tart red fruits and wood. The complexity on this is incredible. The barrels are front and centre, but are utilized superbly. The wild yeast also lifts this beer up even more. What an amazing brew.

Bottle - Plum and nice red wine tart notes. Cloudy res with a thin head. Sour and bitter up front, with a vinous barrel tastes. A bit of funk but not enough to say a "funky" beer.

Bottle courtesy of nate2g, thanks! Murky brown color, tan head. Aroma of boozy vanilla, white wine, port, caramel. Taste is lightly spiced chewy brown bread. Not bad.
