Bottle at home, amber beer, small head. Aroma is sweet, fruit, malt, tropical fruit. Taste is the same, bitter, sweet, fruit, not bad.

The third in this peculiar series of ‘love beers’ developed by a cab driver in Ghent – whose taxi brought me to several occasions in and around Ghent in the past few years… Got this beer from himself in a 75 cl bottle, thanks Joeri! Mousy, plastery lacing, pale off-pinkish, irregularly edged, largely stable head on a clear ‘metallic’ orange blonde beer with peachy hue. Aroma quite sweet and very perfumey in the literal sense of the word; orange blossom, turmeric, roses and ladies’ perfume mingle with impressions of fresh mandarin, lychee (more than the mango that was actually used, strangely), freshly cut red apples, persimmon, soggy rusk, pond water and tofu. Sweet onset but – contrary to what I was fearing – not overly sticky, mandarin ‘fraîcheur’ along with again that lychee note, subtle mango and apple, lively carbonation (very minerally and a bit stinging) propelling these fruity aspects forward but it’s this beer’s extreme ‘perfumeyness’ that soon gets the upper hand, heavily weighing on a bread crumb-, rusk- and very slightly toast-like malt body, with impressions of rose water, white cardamom, turmeric and clove. Quite unexpectedly, underneath this ethereal sweet perfume a relatively firm and confident, spicy hop bitterness shows up, stretching quite a long way into the finish and providing balance against the sweetness, though ‘sweet and spicy’ remains the dominant profile. The hops are aided by a peppery aspect which again reflects the heavy usage of spices. Weird combo of flavours, even more so than the two other Libidus beers; clearly these flavours conflict with each other, but admittedly they do make for an interesting play of colours. Feels a tad artificial and overt ethereal spiciness will never be my cup of tea, but I honestly expected a lot less of this altogether rather bizarre brew.

Clear amber body. Off-white head. Exotic aroma and ditto flavour. Not bad, yet odd.

14/VIII/17 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: 2/VI/19 (2017-1209)

Clear purplish orange beer, creamy yellowish head, stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: sweet and fruity, peach flavoured candy. MF: lively carbon, medium to light body. Taste: bit sweet, fruity, candy, bit sourish, sugary, pomegranate. Aftertaste: little fruity, soft fruitiness, some citrus, peach flavoured candy but without being sweet, strawberry jam.

Bottle from LDW, Eke. Hazy red/brown colour, white foam. Nose of red berries, citrus, mango. Taste is sweet, light tart, some bitterness. Easy drinkable. Rather lively carbonation.
