Originally brewed and developed in the garden of 97 B/C Forest Road in Hackney, East London by Pete and his new flatmates in the Summer of 2015 fresh after leaving his senior brewer position at Camden Town Brewery. After convincing a 500 year old brewery in Belgium (www.leroybreweries.be) to let him have a go - Pete took 75kg of American hops on the Eurostar to brew 15,000 liters of this badboy - this is how Forest Road was started.

5 years later, WORK ipa has retained its every intention.

Brewed with classic Northwest USA hops, with a sturdy malt backbone derived from our signature, carried by a soft ester profile from the much-sought after Forest Road house ale strain, dry-hopped during active fermentation, then once again immediately before its 3-week maturation and cold-conditioning phase.

Bottle from Craig, dregs surprise. Pours hazy golden with a thin white head. Aromas of soap, light green fruit, maybe melon. Taste is bitter, soapy again. Bitter green finish.

Bottle at craig’s. Pours pale golden, nose is light orange, toffee, grassy, taste is sweet, sugary, dry toffee.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; hazy golden yellow pour with a creamy off white head, aroma has citrus and some pale malts, taste has pine, light citrus, sweet malts, OK.

Bottle from Bottle Shop, Bermondsey. It pours hazy gold with a thick white head. The aroma is toasted grain, white bread, cracker, hay and a touch of spice. The taste is crisp, rather bitter, peppery spice, straw, cracker, minerals, toasted grain, soda water and grass with a lingering bitter plastic finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Weird plastic and spicy character comes through after a while. Not great for the first beer on offer from these guys.

Keg at kings arms at the launch. Mostly clear golden yellow coloured pour with a thin white head. Aroma is subdued, little berry fruit, cereal, hint of perfume. Grainy. Flavour is composed of grainy cereal, grain store, little husk, sweet hedgerow berry. Some mineral, little cooked corn, some English yeast esters. Palate is medium light grainy, moderate carbonation. Somewhat bland but passable. London is a pretty tough market, to survive these guys need to improve.

Bottle at home in London - picked up from the Bottle Shop, Bermondsey. Pours clear gold with a frothy white head that settles into a lingering cream. The nose holds lots of damp grains, old lemon, general citrus rind, a little earth. Light sweet flavour with up-front husky bitterness, some unpleasant moist carpet, lots of raw grains, bitter grass, hints of plastic. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Lightly sweet on the finish, musty and a little metallic, with a bit of harsh grassy and husky bitterness, more damp grains, some phenolic off notes, leaves, old bread, old rind. This one’s a bit rough. The name is somewhat unfortunate, because this beer definitely needs some ’work’.
