Kellerbier, cellar beer from Franconia in Bavaria, is one of our favourite styles of lager– light amber in colour, the right balance of noble hops with a malty backbone and a clean, crisp finish.

500ml bottle from the brewery. Pours amber with a very large white foamy head. A very lively pours & lots of carbonation that settles down after 10 minutes. Aromas & tastes of citrus, cereal, pepper, earth, toffee, pine & grain. Medium body. Dry light bitter finish. Very enjoyable apart from the pouring where there was some wastage even though I was been careful!

Bottle from Beer Zoo. It pours golden with a thick, fluffy white head. The aroma is fresh and fluffy, spicy, grass, straw, hay, freshly baked bread, cereal and nips of pine and citrus. The taste is crisp, dry, green, grassy, zingy citrus, lemongrass, some peppery spice, cereal, toasty grain and some floral accents with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Nice depth of flavour for the style and yet, also rather moreish. Nice!

Bottle. Clear amber body with a white head that holds well. Lively carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of nuts, caramel, marzipan and rhubarb and custard sweets. Flavour of earth, white sugar and orange rind. Medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. Clean and warming. Very enjoyable.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - golden with a decent head. Nose - green herb and green peppercorn, possibly green beans. Taste - detecting Saaz spice, lasting green bitter herb. Palate - light bodied, then a lovely bitterness through middle and finish. Overall - like keller meets pilsner. Great stuff.
