Leaner is a collaboration brewed with our friends at Casey Brewing and Blending in Glennwood Springs, Colorado. Named after peaches that are so juicy, that you have to "lean" forward when you bite them, Leaner is a saison that was fermented and aged with mixed cultures from both Missouri and Colorado in French Oak wine barrels for 7 months on Missouri Flamin Fury peaches before being naturally conditioned in this bottle.

750ml bottle. Sour, funky and tart with juicy peaches, oak and farmyardy notes. Pretty good and balanced, a lot more oaky and tanniny than Casey's version.

Pours unclear yellow, small white head. Smell is rich, fruity, acetic acid. Taste is acetic acid ( acceptable amount) , fruity, very dry. Decent, but not as great as I had hoped.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with small white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong peach flesh, funk, oak, lemon zest. Medium body, light peach, nice funk, low acidity, soft finish, really enjoyed this.

Bottle opened by Troy at Casey members Saturday share. Fairly clear golden appearance with a white head. This version isn’t nearly as juicy or funky as I was expecting. The Casey version bursted with peaches and Side Project’s cultures were super vibrant and enticing. Surprisingly, this Side Project version seems was less Side Project-esque that Casey’s first batch. More muted fruit and the funk isn’t there as much. The acid is also a little high. Don’t get me wrong, this is a good beer but it doesn’t have the depth of Casey’s first batch. Based on what I’ve had, I’d rank what I’ve had as follows: Casey Leaner (batch juan) > Casey Leaner (batch two) > this release.
