Special Export lager accentuates the smooth slow-brewed taste of European beer. Using all-American northern barley and northwestern hops, Special Export transforms these ingredients into a fine beer imbued with old world craftsmanship.
Special Export’s founder, Gottlieb Heileman, opted to start his brewery in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, a city claiming pure water and a large population of thirsty Germans to drink beer. In 1858, he built the City Brewery, which is still in operation today, continuing to brew several Pabst Brewing Company products.

Thanks (?) to Darkover for the trade. I can just imagine Butthead saying "This export isn't very special, uh huh huh". Not much to say about this one other than it sucks. Pours a bubbly gold color with a thin white head. Aroma is equal parts cardboard and skunk ass. Weak and thin with a metallic skunky flavor. No finish to speak of, although the one positive thing I can say is it is smooth for such a horrid beer.

GABF 2013. Poured out of a fucken can a clear light golden appearance with a thin white head. Twangy, lemon corny aroma. Moderately watery, a bit sweet, fizzy, grassy flavor. Not horrible but certainly not as good as some of the other Pabst products.

Bottle. Pale yellow urine like colour. True European taste profile, ja, as die Europeer is ’n perd. Faint aroma, skunky from the green bottle. Flavour totally unmemorable. No finish

Interesting, an American made beer sold in pale green glass, hint of sulfur, grass and other wise pale and light tasting. Nice imitation of Carlsberg, but why?

Definitely not special, and probably never exported. Pale yellow. Very thin and light with a watered-down taste. A super-economy beer that is often sold in a super-size case of thirty cans, it is a lot of beer for little money. A favorite of broke college students. --- Beer merged from original tick of Heileman's Special Export on 19 Dec 2025 at 18:23 - Score: 1
