As Italia Freschezza at La Tana, the beer restaurant which originally commissioned this beer. Medium thick, light greyish beige, moussy, stable head, very dark chestnut brown robe, blackish in general appearance. Aroma of a lot of grapefruit peel, pink pepper, walnut, dried sage, leather, pine resin, coffee grounds - typical BIPA without any Belgian trait to it. Fruitiness of dark berries and fig in the onset, touch of unripe pear, medium carbo, nutty malt core, heavily toasted towards the end as is to be expected from a BIPA, supporting a wave of piney and grapefruity, aromatic, spicy, drying, resinous hop bitterness, very long and pleasant. Very internationally oriented, ’clean’ and generously hoppy Cascadian dark ale - and the first in this style I have at session strength. Very interesting.

Pours nearly black, smell is creamy, dark malts. Taste is coffee, roasted malts. Bit bitter, Roasty character. Rather thin MF though. Can use more density and more aromahops. Berhaps a bit more sweetness too, just to balance things out.
