Poured at GABF 16’. Dark brown with thick tan head that lasts. The aroma is cocoa and roast. Thick body, roasted malt, dark chocolate, molasses, dry finish, good.

Pours an oily black with a khaki head from a bottle. Aroma of chocolate and coffee, flavor similar, initially very sweet with some coffee-like bitterness on the finish. Thick and oily in the mouth. Good beer.

Poured from bottle thanks Willrunforbeer 4/28/16 pours cola brown with a nice 2 finger beige head. Aromas of cocoa dark fruit coffee and roasted chocolate. Nice creamy mouth feel with hints matching the aroma. The Abv is well hidden. I like this.

The flavor is respectable. The body and texture is pretty nice. Balance is also very respectable. The 10.5 percent ABV (labeled as such on bottle) is mostly hidden. I like this pretty much.

As the premier Imperial Stout critic on this site, I was pretty hard on this one and lo and behold....
Dark ebony body, undetermined clarity. Large tan head atop fades to ring.
Dry roast, bitter chocolate, ash and very light vinousness in the nose are all great things. No booze and not a hop influenced Imperial...Awesome. I’m in. Breathing lends treacle, tar, some base malts emerging to add caramel and milk chocolate, lightly.
In the flavor it’s equally dry and shows tons of dark chocolate. Light fruitiness and plentiful ash keep things very dry, but no hop bitterness ever comes to unbalance it, thankfully. The base malt is enough to balance the bitter roast (though it still tends dry and bitter). Tight carbonation and a fairly malty, somewhat bready texture. No alcohol in flavor either. Very pleasantly surprised here.
