Bottle shared with my brother. Hazy yellow colour, white foam. Citrussy, sweet fruity notes, some peach. Rather lively carbonation.

F: huge, white, very good retention. C: deep gold to amber, hazy. A: malty, fruity, very yeasty, orange, hint of oxidized. T: malty, dusty, fruity, medicinal notes, bread, cloves, sugary, not very good balanced, medium to full body, high carbonation, controversial beer I expect that good rates will alternate average ones, 0,33l bottle from BelgoMarkt in Brussels.

As Pater Damiaan Triple, made under license of the Damiaanactie, so the profit of the sales of this beer go to a programme helping leprosy patients in the Third World. Apparently the same beer as Père Damien from the same brewery, which has been in existence for several years. Comes from a classic Caulier bottle with swing top. Initially clear yellow golden blonde with some loose bits of yeast here and there, becoming a yellow cloudy ’soup’ with deposit, under a creamy, lacing, pale yellowish white, moussy, crackling head. Aroma has a lot of acetaldehyde and ’Belgian’ yeastiness, with impressions of raw rhubarb, apple peel, gooseberries, white bread, pear, straw, pineapple, white grapes, bubblegum, garden weeds, tulips, raw cauliflower, honey, cloves, a faint hint of young ’jenever’, stale sweat and something vaguely sulphuric (faint sewer water and even some medicinal phenols), but faint enough not to interfere too much. Fruity onset, bit estery, a lot of apple and pear, green stonefruit and pineapple, vague hint of banana, fairly spritzy carbonation, bit minerally and sourish, with a smooth, soft, notably bready but light maltiness following. Finish consists mostly of lingering bready malt sweetness, with a dash of grassy and earthy hop bitterness providing some (but actually insufficient) balance for the style, some yeastiness and a glow of warming, gin-like alcohol, which remains where it ought to be without becoming astringent. Too bad for the faint off-flavours in the nose, not really going away and even becoming somewhat stronger as the beer warms up, but apart from that, this is a fairly decent and enjoyable tripel; if only they had ventured into a style which is not yet overcrowded in Belgium. I guess it had to be a familiar style to the Belgian consumer in order to raise enough funds for the Damiaan project.

Bottle with different label and name. They dutchtified it to pater damjaan, making it hard to find ( im sure there will be a new entry in no time. Pours clear blonde, fast fading small white head. Smell is sweet, funky grain and yeast. Taste is weak, sugar, bit bitter. Buttery yeast flavor. Pretty simple beer.

Schöne, hellgelb-trübe Farbe im Glas, beständiger, weißer Schaum. Der Geruch ist fruchtig, leicht scharf und schwer. Der Antrunk ist fruchtig-säuerlich mit ganz leichter Hefenote. Zum Hauptteil hin wird das Bier noch einen Tick säuerlicher, aber dabei angenehm mild. Die 8% schmeckt man gar nicht. Zu der schön säuerlichen Note kommt zum Nachgeschmack hin eine sehr schöne milde von gelben Früchten, besonders Bananen. Das Bier wird immer weicher und im Nachgeschmack ist die säuerliche Note schon fast komplett von der samtigen Milde verdrängt. Dazu kommt eine leicht muffige Herbe.
--> Nettes Bier, aber für meinen Geschmack zu säuerlich und zu muffig.
