Thick dense whipped eggwhite-like head, yellowish, over clear golden beer, finely carbonated. Hoppy, citrussy and herbal nose, husks, Hessian sacks. Bitter-herbal, lightly burning MF, helped by the carbonation. Quite dry, hoppy, slightly toasted. Well-carbonated. Kudo’s! Just a good extra dose of fine hops, and a dull beer is transformed into a really good one.

Little hazy deep blond beer, creamy white head, little stable, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: citrus, grapefruit, bit grassy, little metallic, and lots of cigarette fumes from the other people on the terrace. Oh well... MF: lots of carbon, medium body. Taste: citrus, grapefruit, pretty bitter, grassy, fruity notes. Aftertaste: more citrus, grapefruit, sourish touch, nice bitterness.

New, dry-hopped version of the PoppoLou beer made by Anders for the Manuscript music & beer pub in Ostend. Creamy, frothy, lacing, egg-white, very stable head, colour a cloudy straw blonde with somewhat greenish hue, looking identical to the regular version. Aroma is however different, more aromatically hoppy and more outspoken; I get impressions of peach, gooseberries, green apple, green olives, freshly cut nettles, white bread, plums and a friendly, lime blossom- and grapefruit peel-like hop fragrance. Taste has the same soft fruitiness in onset, apple, unripe pineapple and berries, but never sweet, with spritzy carbonation; there is a vague touch of ’Belgian banana ester’ (isoamylacetate) somewhere, but it does not become as bothersome as is sometimes the case in Belgian ales. Mouthfeel is full, smooth and filling, built on a somewhat grainy, very lightly bready malt backbone; finish is bitterish with a citrussy Cascade quality to it, herbal and aromatic, providing good balance. The regular PoppoLou is just decent but not much more, this one, however, has a lovely hop character and shows more personality; clearly the dry-hopping has improved the original recipe. Big cheers to Vanessa and thanks for the beer chat!
