Altar is our interpretation of any American saison, inspired in equal parts by modern Belgian saisons and English pale ales.

The 2019 iteration is an unblended beer made with a variety of barley malts and a small portion of wheat. It was hopped with past vintage hops, then fermented and aged in an oak tank for 6 months with a mixed culture. The aged beer was dry hopped with hops from Germany and New Zealand.

This beer has been aged and conditioned in the bottle. It is not intended to be aged further.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is fairly hop forward with some floral and herbal notes but more of a citrus and tropical fruit character. Some lemon and pineapple notes with hints of green grape must. Faint oak. Pours a hazy, pale, golden straw color with a small,l medium thick, white head that recedes quickly to the edges where it lingers for some time. No lacing and faint legs. Flavor has a light acidity with medium light sweetness. Light grain notes and low bitterness. Hints of oak and alcohol. Some lemon, pineapple and tropical fruit. Hop notes are a bit buttery and cheesy. Light herbal hop note. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer. It would probably be better if it were fresher and that might have helped limit the cheesiness did the hops.

Bottle thanks to Anthony. Pours a cloudy yellow gold with medium white head that lasts. The aroma is strong yeast, oak, brett, funk. Thin body, citrus, brett, oak, nice tartness, balanced, enjoyed this.
