Close encounter is a bold venture into depths unknown. The best of both worlds co-exist between a rich roasted malt character and an aggressive hop presence that will probe your taste buds like nothing you have experienced before. Don't fear the unknown, embrace it! You never know who or what you will encounter...

16oz can pours a watery, but translucent dark brown / black with some very frothy caramel head. Nose has toast, malt, molasses, some coffee bean, a little pine, a little soap. Flavor is sweet with malt, toast, caramel, coffee bean, brown sugar, some soap, a little roasty bitterness. Finishes medium bodied and dry finish. Very drinkable at 7%.

Can into a snifter showing coffee brown with half a finger of quickly dissipating coffee foam. The nose shows lightly tart coffee notes interspersed with steel tank notes. The palate is light bodied and well carbonated. Flavors of coffee with a moderate coffee tartness. Steel tank notes become more apparent on the mid-palate. Finish is sharp IPA bitterness. The mix of earthy hops and roast malt are alright but not my fav style.

Pint can a friend brought over from NY. Almost pitch black color, short thick brownish head. Hoppy smell upfront. Aroma is quite hoppy, resin, burnt malts, charcoal, citrus. Earthy and bitter taste, texture somewhat dusty, medium body, soft to average carbonation, long dark bitter finish, melted snow aftertaste.

16oz can. Pretty much nails it for the stye. Attractive steady beige head tone on top of a brown-black body. Oily, thick, resinous. Full bodied, heavy. Quite enjoyable, works with the Pipeworks sugary feel well.
