The Quercus Robur is the new name of our triple, a delicious golden beer. With an alcohol content of 7.5%, it drinks quickly. The nose immediately experiences the tingling of the sweet and bitter notes. The sweetness comes from the yeast, the bitter comes from the three different hop varieties that give the beer its own character. Robur is the Latin name of the pedunculate oak, Quercus Robur is a delicious summer terrace beer!

Previously brewed at the Brasserie de Silly.

27/VII/17 - 33cl bottle from Willems (Grobbenconk) @ holidays - BB: 26/XI/17 (2017-1136)

Clear blond to light orange beer, small creamy white head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very fruity, apples and pears, banana, pretty yeasty. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body, creamy texture. Taste: pretty fruity start, bitter, hoppy, some citrus, earthy yeast characters, bit spicy, little sweet touch, banana and coriander. Aftertaste: nice bitter finish, banana peel, yeast, spicy, bit sourish, more coriander, bit earthy, slightly sweet and fruity finish.

Flesje thuis gedronken. Goudgeel helder bier met stevig schuim dat lang staat. Aroma is hoppig, fruitig en houtachtig, maar na 5 minuten is het aroma bijna weg. Smaak is bitter hoppig. De nasmaak is bitter, een beetje wrang zelfs.

Bottle @ home. Clear golden color, medium sized bubbly white head that diminishes fairly quickly. Aroma is malts, some grains, straw, lightly herbal yeastiness. Taste malts, grains, lightly some sort of herbal touch again, medium bitterness. Decent body, medium carbonation. Not very flavorful but no real flaws either. Quite boring but nothing really wrong with it.

Bottle. Pours rather clear blonde, small white head. Smell is bit malty, but not really intense nor complex. Taste is sweet, malty ( mild metallic notes towards the back ) as well as a certain hoppyness. Buttery undertone which doesn’t seem quite right. The taste itself is absolutely not ’fresh’ and what we cal ’wrang’ in dutch. Not that good, I even think something went a bit wrong in this batch, due to the buttery undertone which strongly reminds me of dyacethyl ...

Golden colour with lasting head. Aroma and flavour have lots of grain and floral notes. Flavour also has a reasonable level of hop dryness too.

Bottle from Prik & Tik in Zele with different label than shown here, mentioning it is actually brewed at Silly for Prik & Tik Lommel by the guys from Lommel Brouwt. The name is actually the scientific name of the pedunculate oak which may be a bit misleading as this is not oak aged and I fail to see any other possible connection with this tree whatsoever. Thinnish, lightly lacing, moussy, egg-white, quickly dissipating and eventually disappearing head over a pretty deep yellow golden beer with ’old gold’ hue and vivid sparkling, clear initially but turning lightly hazy with deposit added. Quite strong bouquet of sour apple, banana peel, ripe plum, candied lemon, dry white wine or grape peel, tulip, some dry earth, touch of bitter herbs, toasted white bread, white pepper, some subtle varnish-like solvents, ’jenever’, vanilla, grass. Crisp, fruity, lightly estery onset, lots of gooseberry, green apple and unripe banana, sweetish and sourish well in balance with each other, rather soft carbo in spite of the visible fizz, supple, smooth mouthfeel, nice spicy yeasty notes, pleasantly bready and very lightly caramelly middle, drying finish with earthy, grassy and peppery hop bitterishness yielding floral notes retronasally, juicy maltiness and a relatively strong, yet non-astringent glow of warming, gin-like alcohol in the end. Nothing out of the ordinary, another cliché tripel or perhaps more an ’edelbier’, but technically correct, pleasantly bready and fulfilling with a very good balance of sweet and bitter and nicely lingering hop bitterness. I like this, just too bad for the lack of head retention.

Slightly hazy pale amber colour, large frothy off-white head, recedes quickly, nice lacing. Sweet fruity aroma, peach, pear, herbal notes, floral. Taste medium sweet and bitter, fruity. Medium body, oily to creamy texture, average carbonation, develops more bitterness in the aftertaste but fruity and herbal elements linger on, in the finish quite dry and a bit spicy, very nice, I like it.
