[bbd 11/04/14] Pitch black colour with a ruby hue, small frothy tan head, recedes quickly, fair lacing. Aroma of sweet malts, brown sugar, sugar syrup, some caramel, coffee. Taste is light heavy sweet, sugary (but not too), light chocolate. Light to medium body, watery to oily texture, average carbonation, sweetness continues in the aftertaste with liquorice and light spicy notes. Old-fashioned Belgian Stout, I have a weak spot for this sort of out of time beers.

*Old rating, best before 10/09/12. Interessant süßlich-malziges Bier. Ein Hauch von Röstmalz, ein Hauch Zucker, lecker, süß-süffig, vielleicht etwas zu süß aber ausgewogen.

Bottle from Willems. Very dark brown with a small brown head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, honey and hints of roasted malt. Flavor is quite sweet and light bitter. Sweet finish. Not pleasant. 021114

One of those old school sweet stouts aimed at an older audience and distributed only locally, with very low commercial profile, like their Dinner Beers. Dark beige, thick head, eventually opening; opaque burgundy colour, near black with the reddish hue only visible under bright light. Caramelly aroma, chocolate, some coffee grounds, straw, liquorice, raisins and cloves. Sweet candi syrup in the taste, very caramelly, sugary till the finish, where a light hop bitterishness and vague roasted bitterness also appear. Rather thin mouthfeel. I have lots of sympathy for disappearing Belgian beer traditions and I’m glad Bavik still makes this.

BOTTLE 25CL.
Look: opaque black, espresso frothy to creamy head.
Aroma: some sweet chocolate, medicine candy shell sweetness.
Taste: sweet, some malt and that medical candy shell used to mask a pill’s bitterness.

Bottle Pours black, good grey head . Smells like a lager beer WTF ?? Taste is sweet , in a sugary, syrupy way . Grains, malts ( no not even roasted malts, more like the sweet malts ) Taken in concideration its ABV , it has a very decent amount of complexity and taste . Yet the taste is very simple ( SUGAR THE DAMN THING , was probably what the brewer shouted to the staff ) . Its a nice beer to session , and certainly a lot better than most other beers of the same alcohol content . But it can even begin to compete with higher ABV stouts .

11/II/13 - 25cl bottle from Willems (Grobbendonk) @ home - BB:n/a (2013-159)
Clear dark brown beer, small aery beige head with fine bubbles, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: grassy hops, surprisingly enough, this smells like a pilsener, grains, a bit sweet, hay, stable (which is pretty fitting given the name). MF: ok carbon, light body. Taste: sweet and sugary start, more sugar, caramel, hay, bitter hops, grains, more sugar still. Aftertaste: little bitter, lots of sugar, caramel, bit grassy, hay, ersatz chocolate. Man this is really bad stuff.

33 cl bottle @ hotel room, Bruges. Rated on 16.07.2010
Aroma has oat, some sweetish chocolate and also some harsh notes. Flavour is sweet and feels a bit artficial. It has semi‐dark chocolate, some licorice and cocoa. Nothing much.
