330ml bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck. Pours clear gold, rocky white topping. Aroma is vanilla / banana / floral yeast that verges towards a tripel sweetness. Taste continues along similar lines, nicely balanced, moderately sweet. Nice blonde, didn't get the off-notes others experienced.

Helder geel bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is licht bitter hoppig en licht zoet met iets van citrus en ananas. Valt wat tegen, er zijn veel betere.

Bottle @ home shared with dad. Clear yellow golden color, medium sized white head that lasts for a decent while. Smell and taste malts, orangepeel and yeast. Decent body and carbonation. Ok.

Belgian strong blonde ale honouring the popular early 20th-century Flemish author Stijn Streuvels. Medium sized head, off-white in colour, bubbly and quickly dissolving in the middle, over a warm, very pure ’old gold’ coloured, clear beer with fierce sparkling. Clearly filtered, as it remains just as clear with the whole bottle emptied in the glass. Aroma of red apple, straw, white pepper, dry cereals, dried camomile, lightly toasted white bread, ’jenever’, some green banana, old abbey cheese, unripe pear. Mildly fruity onset, ’clean’, with hints of unripe stonefruit and green banana, sweetish and sourish but both quite subdued for a beer in this style, fizzy carbonation, minerally, smooth and supple mouthfeel with a slight metallic ’zing’ to it, lightly malt sweet but predominantly grainy and cereally, on the thin side actually, leading to a bittering finish of spicy, leafy and notably floral hops, bit herbal as well, along with warming, ’jenever’-like alcohol, pleasant actually and nowhere astringent, matching well with the lingering herbal hop bitterness. Quite alright, somewhat clean (even strong lager-like) and thin for a tripel but I guess this was more aimed at the ’edelbier’ style (think Duvel) than at actual abbey tripel (which, from a puristic point of view, would then have been bottle conditioned instead of filtered as well). Nice floral hop touch. Enjoyable, in all, but lacking in body and character and in that sense not truly conveying the spirit of Streuvels’ work I guess; feels very old school as well.

@ Den Hert, Vichte. Hazy yellow colour, white foam. Sweet malty nose, some notes of toast and grass. Rather unbalanced.

Clear golden colour. Aroma has a touch of mustiness and yeast. Plain, grainy taste with some yeasty notes and a touch of clove. Fairly dry finish.
