Il corpo è leggero e l’attacco al palato apparentemente dolce, lascia spazio a ciò che una vera Porter dovrebbe manifestare. Caffè, cioccolato e liquirizia primeggiano senza però nascondere la speziatura originale dell’uvetta che le dona quel tocco in più di dolcezza e dello zenzero e scorza d’arancia che le regalano freschezza e, insieme ai luppoli, conducono la bevuta verso un finale piacevolmente amaro.
La notevole etichetta di questa birra nasce dalla collaborazione con la Film-Maker portoghese Regina Pessoa che, ispirandosi al suo film “Kali the little vampire”, ha ripreso la riflessione sul contrasto buio/luce attraverso il disegno. Il protagonista in principio nega il proprio lato oscuro e arriva, solo alla fine, ad accettarlo scoprendone le qualità.

Gingembre, écorce d’orange et raisins de Corinthe, intégrés dans la recette font de suite de cette Reine d’Hiver une porter intéressante pouvant rentrer dans la catégorie des bière de Noël. Cependant respectons la volonté de la brasserie Elav qui la mentionne uniquement en tant que porter. Son plus gros défaut est tout de même sa texture et sa corpulence qui la limite nettement. Texture liquide qui aurait gagné à être plus épaisse et soyeuse. Corpulence réellement limitée avec des arômes manquant d’ampleurs (mais sur une bonne intensité). En verre nous sommes sur un brun très foncé quasiment noir. L’effervescence est peu marquée avec une absence de mousse. Très beau nez, riche, intense et élégant sur le café, le chocolat, l’orange, le tout subtilement épicé et houblonné. La surprise à la dégustation provient de suite de la texture. Celle-ci manque nettement de densité avec une attaque souple où de suite le gingembre, l’orange et le raisin sont aux avant postes, avec le chocolat et le café plus en retrait. A noter également un petit côté épicé/piquant. La deuxième bouche voit le chocolat et le gingembre prendre les devants avec une arrière bouche bien intégrée, davantage sur l’amertume, avec en principal le café, l’orange et le gingembre. La troisième bouche qui se densifie quelque peu (mais nous sommes en relatif par rapport à l’attaque des plus souples) s’oriente davantage sur le chocolat. Le final, sur une amertume légèrement plus saillante, marque un peu plus le café avec une charge épicée qui reste bien prégnante. L’alcool, à 7 % Abv, aurait gagné à être légèrement plus poussé. L’amertume, sur Cascade, Ahtanum et Columbus est bien équilibrée entre pouvoir amérisant et rondeur fruitée. Rien à dire non plus sur le sucre. Respectable porter soit, mais la Regina d’Inverno est cependant encore loin des Reines d’Hiver.

Draught at Delirium Cafe, Caen, on March 22, 2017. At a cost of €4.20 for 25 cl (for 50 cl it was €7.80).Black color, light brown head. Roasted, a tad sweet, light fruity, minerals taste. Roasted, mineral, light bitter aftertaste. Medium, a bit flat, mouthfeel. Medium low bitterness. Mild toffee scent.

(bottle, 33cl) Almost black coloured hue with a beige and short foamy head. Mildly leathery dark malty aroma with subtle berry-fruity notes and a tinge of marzipan. Roasty bitter and slightly sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a smooth carbonation. Dark malt character with little roasty notes, leather, dark chocolate, berries and shades of liquorice; moderately dry, bitter-sweet dark malty and slightly fruity finish. 330ml bottle. Jet black colour with average to huge, frothy, fairly lasting & lacing, tan head. Dark malty and fruity aroma, notes of dark berries, bramble, huckleberry, their corresponding shrubs, some chocolate. Taste is slightly sweet dark malty, dark berry notes of blue- and blackberry again, milk chocolate, dry overtones of fruit parings and shrubs; long lasting finish, sweet film remains on the lips; sadly the lively carbonation inhibits the exhaustive grasp of the flavours present.

A black beer with a huge and beige head. The aroma has roastiness and sweetness, ginger, and some spices and fruits. Taste has strong roastiness, ginger, herbs. Medium bodied, nice carbonation. Good beer, even the ginger should be milder but that isn’t spoiled the beer. Not balanced.

0,33L bottle (from De Tolly Joogipood), BB 09.22.27. Pours black with light brown head. The head stays for a moment. Aroma is sweet, fruits, roast, malt. Flavor is sweet, roast, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, fruits. Finish is roast bitter. Overall: nice brew.
