Bourbon Barrel Aged Rye Imperial Stout with Toasted and Raw Coconut and Vanilla Beans.

DM falls somewhere between Derivation and Medianoche - an Imperial Stout that we had the pleasure of brewing with our friends at Weldwerks more than 2 years ago. We brewed this Rye Imperial Stout with a higher hopping rate for the rye and hops to play together, to offer a snappy backbone to the aging and decadent adjuncts we had planned on infusing this massive stout with. After aging for 28 months to 24 months in Weller 12-year and Rittenhouse Rye barrels, we blended to taste and infused the beer four times with raw and toasted coconut and then finished it with Mexican vanilla beans.

Thicc, heavy and intense with coconut, vanilla and cocoa notes, chocolate sauce and barrel notes, toffee and hints of salted caramel. On tap at Side Project Cellar. Black with beautiful brown head. Layers of deep chocolate, chewy and smooth, drinks easily. Coconut is all over. Vanilla. Nicely integrated bourbon. Oily and viscous. Doesn't get better than this.

Cellar draught, 2/16/24. Dark. Tan head slowly to cover. Wow, is this the richest beer I've ever had? Possibly. So much malt, vanilla, caramel, chocolate and mellow bourbon. No booze, balanced acidity. Yes, this may be the richest beer I've ever had. Actually less thick than some medianoches, with intense vanilla, intens caramel and milk chocolate. Balancing bourbon spice pepper and liquor lingering. Reasonable attenuation and no booze. Ok, so I see why it's rated so highly...

FLLLN, wish we had popped this side by side with medianoche reserve as well as BBT, oh well. Dat barrel body and toasted coconut with the thiccc vanilla, all of it really balanced in an experience that makes you go whaaaaaaa. Did remind me of derivation.
