I am pleased to share with you our Oaked Diabolik Ale. This Belgian-style sour ale is another in our limited-edition series of barrel-aged beers. Brewed with 100% imported German Pilsner malt and Spalt hops, fermented in stainless steel vessels and then aged in oak barrels which lend a complex wild sourness and woody dryness to the palate. Cheers, Bill Madden, Executive Brewer & CEO

Bottle shared during the RBWG 2015 Grand Tasting. Pours clear gold with a foamy, white head. The nose holds citrus, fusel alcohol, gasoline, tangerine. Medium sweet flavor with some sharp citrus, light tangy lemon, pale bread. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sugary citrus in the finish, some apricot, orange, golden raisins, some acetic bite, sweat. So so.

Draft at Meridian Pint. Poured a mostly clear, slightly hazy golden color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was some lemon notes, white grape. Some vinegar notes on the finish. Flavor could have been a bit more balanced between the sour notes and the sour notes. A small amount of this goes a long way. I enjoyed it, but I wonder if it would taste even better if they could blend this a bit with some regular Diabolik.

22oz bottle at the brewery pours a lightly hazy gold with lots of frothy, white head. Nose has lemon peel, white grapefruit, mild vinegar, white grape, wood pulp, some butter oak. Flavor is heavy with the buttery chardonnay oak, some lees, lemon rind, mild vinegar, some light grainy notes, some apricot. Medium, tannic, tart finish. This is probably getting better as time goes on.

This one’s a little on the rough side. I agree with Jackl on the weird off flavours on this one. Bottle at Brony tasting.
