It is Lager, but not as we know it.

In late 2010 we decided to take 77 Lager and try do something pretty special with it. Because we are geeks and like numbers, we brewed a batch which was 7.7% then put it into single grain scotch whisky casks.

The beer has been aged for 18 months in oak now and has been lightly filtered (to remove the charring from the barrels).

Bottle @ fonefan tasting. Medium head with medium duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are malt, caramel, sugar, fruits, wood and notes of hops. Thin bodied. Worst brew from Brewdog I have tasted.

Bottle. Clear golden colour, small white head. Aroma hops, caramel, dark fruits, light roasted. Taste medium bitter, almost medium sweet, sweet wood hits you right away, light smoke. Barrel aging brought a new dimension to this beer, I am not sure if I like it, but it is definitely interesting. Minor dark fruits in the taste also, minor caramel. Finish smooth sweet wood with hoppy bitterness. Not bad, but not a lager of the year either. 7 3 7 3 14 - 11.9.2012

Rerate 23.1.2013 - Clear golden colour, nice stable white head. Aroma is plum, raspberry, wood, very light mint (where does it come from?). The wood in this beer is sweet. Some grapefruit sourness appeared, also diacetyl. Wood seems to be fighting with the hops here, mostly in finish. I definitely do not think putting this in barrels was a good idea. However it is good that I had a chance to taste the unusual.

Pours amber with a large, lasting head.Nose shows honey, vanilla oak notes, buttery toffee, spicy hops and alcohol.A bit weird. Some oak transfers through as a flavour, along with the spicy notes, alcohol and soft toffee. The alcohol seems a little harsh and whisky-like.Carbonation is too high.

33cl bottle, batch #118. Bbe 04/2013. Poured honey colored, thin white head. Aroma has honey, vanilla, sweet fruity. Flavor has vanilla, wood, some sour berries and malt coming through later. alcohol warmth. Finish is long with vanilla, and fruity, apricot notes. Strange combination, aroma very similar to Innis&Gunn’s beers.

330ml bottle from Brewdog.com

Bottled (BBE?) on 17.04.13 Pours clear orange with a tiny bubbly head. Aroma has notes of sour fruits, oaky wooden notes, whisky and some berries. Taste is quite untypical with salty malts, sweet vanilla oak whisky notes, sour fruits, spices and biscuity notes. Finish is slightly bitter and sour with sweet vanilla whisky notes. Unbalanced and untypical, but surprisingly not very bad.

33 cl bottle @ home. Batch #118: bottled on 17.04.2013 (wtf?)
Aroma is rather stinging with oaky notes, whisky and smoke. Like a mixture of oud bruin and whisky. Flavour is slightly sweet with very salty whisky notes and some distant oaky notes. Interesting stuff.

330ml bottle. Pours a dark copper with a medium head. Aroma is orange squash, TCP and alcohol. Taste is sour and has lager malts with a plastic finish. Faint whisky aftertaste.
