It is Lager, but not as we know it.
In late 2010 we decided to take 77 Lager and try do something pretty special with it. Because we are geeks and like numbers, we brewed a batch which was 7.7% then put it into single grain scotch whisky casks.
The beer has been aged for 18 months in oak now and has been lightly filtered (to remove the charring from the barrels).

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Pours a clear golden with a small white head. Sweet and perfumy whisky aroma. Medium body, malty, flowery hops, slightly tart and then quite some whisky accents. Lightly bitter. A rare barrel aged Lager! 071112

330 ml bottle. Barrel aged lager, WTF. What a crazy idea, probably a bad idea but I like the idea more than the beer. It’s slightly cloudy golden with a small and fast diapering white head. The aroma has caramel, vanilla and some butterscotch. Pretty unusually in the nose. Flavor is sweet and acidic, light malty, oak, vanilla, some bitterness and a hint of butterscotch. Medium body and the aftertaste is just the same weird flavor as the rest of it. Just a bunch of strange flavor without any balance and actually not nice at all. I just love to hate this one.

O.33l bottle. This is a blurry golden orange one with a small light bubbly and sidesticking off-white head. On the aroma it's actually a bit sour and acidic. I get woody tones all the way here. Lingonberries, oak, caramel and vanilla. Nice stuff. A bit odd, but nice. In taste it's really oaky and light sour. A really good carbonation level in a oily mouthfeel. Oaky and caramel, sour vanilla. Some clear booze. Feels a bit spitted - like in all the flavors does some how not manage to combine properly. Lasting warming aftertaste of alcohol, that's actually quite alright. A different experience. Not sure if I really liked it or not. No wait, I did not particularly like this.. 17.08.2012

Bottle 330ml @ Geokkjer
Pours slightly hazy golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, butterscotch, vanilla and wood. Taste is light to medium sweet, light bitter and light sour with a kind of sour, woody, vanilla finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle. It pours a lightly hazy body, golden in color and with a small, off-white head. Vanilla, butterscotch and some fruityness in the aroma. A touch of alcohol too. Medium body, lightly acidic on the palate. Pleasant carbonation. Butterscotch and vanilla in the flavor too, quite fruity, and with a nice bitterness. Lightly acidic in the far end. Well, in a strange way it’s an interesting beer, but it’s not a beer I could have a few of. Hence the low score. 121017

Golden colour with a small white head. Malty and fruity aroma. A bit sweet and fruity flavour. Solid malt background. Not to much alcohol in the flavour either. Nice.

33cl bottle from Geers, batch#118, BB 17-04-2013.

Bottle at home (Bitter Virtue) - 22/09/12. Pours a hazy pale golden with a thin white head that soon clears to the edge of the glass. Pale malts, orange peel, melted plastic, grain and herbs on the nose. Malt, grain, wood, medicinal tones, citrus and herbal aspects to the flavour with some hints of whisky. Medium bodied, a little watery for 7.7%, medium carbonation with a medicinal orange flavour in the finish. Overall something a little different and in my opinion it is certainly drinkable. I’d share a bottle again if someone else had already sourced it, but I wouldn’t fork out £4.50 for it in the future myself!
