It is Lager, but not as we know it.

In late 2010 we decided to take 77 Lager and try do something pretty special with it. Because we are geeks and like numbers, we brewed a batch which was 7.7% then put it into single grain scotch whisky casks.

The beer has been aged for 18 months in oak now and has been lightly filtered (to remove the charring from the barrels).

Hazy amber beer, tidy off white head. Mildly crisp palate, fairly dry. Vanilla oak and a little sour whisky, quite mild and in good balance with the oak. Palate turns softer and sublte orange hops appear before a sei dry finish. Not bad! A bit off the beaten track.

Bottle at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a clear amber with a thin white head and medium carbonation. The aroma is dominated by the oak and whisky. There’s nothing wrong with that! The flavour is rich, oaky and it tastes like the whisky was poured into the mix rather than being gently absorbed from the barrel. The whisky burns a little, but its not overpowering. I don’t think there’s much middle ground with this beer, you will either love it or hate it. I thought is was great. It’s an ideal beer to introduce a whisky drinker to the world of beer. You can almost chew the oak!

330 ml shared bottle. Deep golden to orange colour, moderate white head. Moderate aroma, some dusty and oaky notes, hints of dark dried fruits / raisins. Fruity sweet flavour, raisins again, oaky notes. Unusual, but not bad.

FlSie fra Kioskh: uklar gylden og med antydning til gardinskul. Fatlagringen har ikke satt dype spor etter seg, men hvis dette hadde vært industristandard hadde pilsens venner hatt en stor og en lykkelig medlemsskare.

Bottled. A golden beer with a huge white head. The aroma has notes of butter and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of butter, wood, and malt, leading to a dry finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.
