M.J.K. was brewed, aged, blended and bottled in honor of our son. This English-inspired Barleywine was conceptualized more than 3 years ago and was first brewed in June of 2018. As time has passed, three unique recipes for M.J.K. have been brewed and then aged for their first rest in Willett Family Estate barrels. These unique expressions allowed our ever-changing perception of what Barleywine is to be explored and revealed to you through our precise blending of double barrel-aged and triple barrel-aged Barleywine.…

Bottle pour at the brewery. Dark brown with small beige head. Lots of barrel, bourbon, caramel, dried fruit, prunes, very warming, incredible for the abv. Oily. Some alcohol coming through.

750mL bottle released Feb 2021, drunk at the brewery, 12/26/22. Clear, dark-maroon-dark-mahogany-amber. No head. Complex, well-aged, not boozey or sugary. Yep, that's insane. Just so much Bourbon complexity balanced by prune, raisin, molasses, brown sugar. Oak, vanilla, rich, spicy bourbon. Smells like walking in to an antique dealership dealing in vintage mahogany. How is there no alcohol apparent?? Rich, lots of raisins, brown sugar, molasses, bourbon nipping at the sides of your palate. Soft, malty, not sugary, not even all that syrupy (lightly so). Not boozey but very spicy and with excellent whiskey complexity backed by rich, malty barley wine. You know, this is phenomenally insanely good, but not Significantly more so than Stay Puft - Elijah Craig. FWIW. Another bottle pour at The Cellar, 9/30/23. Amazing how much this has evolved/changed in just 9 months. Almost a different beer. Much more levity of flavor and texture. Some fruity apple-like character and more pepper emerging, with long, dry toffee and more lovely vanilla. After trying like 50% of SP's insane, big name stouts and barleywines (#humblebrag), I think I'm ready to up the score on this guy a bit more. Love that it doubles down on the decadence and giant nature of this style of beer. For once, I love and appreciate it's go big or go home nature. Oh, and the still bottling thing is just gravy. I hope that trend takes off.

2 oz. bottle pour at the brewery. It's an opaque dark brown, no sparkle, head or lacing but excellent sticky viscosity. Aroma is strong caramel, whiskey, dark fruit, late oak/green wood. Taste is strong caramel, whiskey/bourbon, dark fruit. Mouthfeel is medium-to-full bodied with thick, smooth texture, soft carbonation, nice alcohol warmth and finish as taste. Overall, excellent strength of aroma and flavor with decent complexity. Outside of the alcohol warmth, no flavor or harshness at 20%! Beautiful balance.

FLN, I stole Hernandes S. Pic cause he used my likeness in his pic. Definitely reminds me of millennium or utopias, but way more barrel notes to distinct and more caramel boozy raisin BiL notes too. Damn perfection.

Bottle pour at the brewery. Cloudy brown with small beige head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is bourbon, fig, dates, oak, vanilla, brown sugar. Slick body, dark fruit, oak, brown sugar, caramel, boozy but not overpowering for 20%, enjoyed this.
