The 'original' Boucanier, commissioned by Icobes (International Company Beers Ltd.). Formerly known as Bière du Boucanier Blonde and based on Piraat or even an alias of it.

Queen of the "Belgian Strong Ale" category, the incomparable and renowned golden blond beer, defined in the insert Lekkerbek (Gourmet) of the Belgian daily newspaper Gentenaar of 7 October 2001 as one of the "Three Top" of the "Belgian strong ale & triple ale" category.
It’s the strongest of Boucanier beers with intense and vigorous rich malt taste, powerful and harmonious aftertaste.
For the high quality and excellent taste Boucanier Golden Ale:
- won the golden medal with 3 stars of the “Superior Taste Award 2014” of ITQI in Brussels;
- became a Country Winner in the selection of the "WORLD BEER AWARDS 2019" in the UK;
- won the silver medal at the "LONDON BEER COMPETITION 2019", taking the third place among 350 competing beers from all over the world;
- obtained the "GRAND GOLD 2020", important German award by Frankfurt International Trophy.
It is a typical convivial beer, excellent for meditation and for special celebrations or to drink with gourmet foods.
Perfect tasting temperature is 46,4-53,6 °F / 8-12 °C.

(Bottle 33 cl) Pilsener golden, almost clear with some impurities. Small, creamy, white head which leaves some lacing. Some yeast and diacetyl in the nose. Extremely full-bodied, with flavours of malt and diacetyl. But mainly this is a beer that has the focus on a strong, burning alcohol with a harsh, bitter finish. Very difficult to drink. An extremely crude and primitive ale. 050705

I have been curious about this one for a while but this was the first time I had gotten around to grabbing one. Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a cloudy medium yellow with a medium sized white head. The aroma is tangy and has a sweet fruit element. The mouthfeel is thick. The flavor is very sweet and yeasty with a sour fruit tang and some alcohol burn in the finish.

Bottle Pale, yellow body. Rocky, off-white head, which lasts fully. Fair lace. Nose of hops (grass) and hints of caramel. Moderately bitter, lightly acetic intial flavour. Heavily bitter (alcoholic finish). Defenitely fully bodied. The alcohol-domination is one step over the edge.

Golden - a bit hazy - color with big white head. Aroma is malty and alcoholic - it’s like in East European malt liquers. Slightly fruity and sweet, hoppy flavor with strong alcoholic kick. This one really shows its ABV. This one would be a hit in eg. Estonian or Russian markets :)

An unclear amber beer with a white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of peach as well as hints of alcohol. The flavor is sweet malty with light hints of peach. A nice version of a Belgian Strong Ale. Thanks Alex (fiulijn) for bringing this to Denmark.

Clear light-amber, quite carbonated; thin whitish head. Nose with palmheart, warm malty, alcoholic, warmed puff dough of éclair. Sweet-dry taste, alcoholic taste, liqueur-like. Bit spicey: Laos-root, horseradish without the piquancy, bit of stale vanilla. Finishes very sweet, like peach-liqueur. Dry, alcoholburn, burnt cookies MF. Alcoholburn keeps all the time in a long aftertaste. So much alcohol, that the typical V.S. thumbprint gets numbed. But it’s not very exhilarating, at the end of the ride.

Sampled at From The Vine beer tasting Jan 9th, 2004: This brew pours a clear gold color and is somewhat bubbly. Thin foamy white head and fair lacing. The aroma consists of Lager-ish hops, fruit and yeast. Kind of light body and fizzy, with malt, fruit and yeast flavors. The alcohol is very apparent throughout. The finish is very dry and citrusy, with a pronounced alcohol burn. I really wasn't all that impressed with this one. But pirates are cool.

Dark golden colour with no head at all. Fairly hazy. Tons of super-small bubbles rise from the bottom of the glass nicely. Smells of sweet fruit, spices, strong malt, candy and even alcohol! The nose on this beer is simply great. A large complexity arises when trying to determine the various essences. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong initial flavour of berries, candy and alcohol fades fast to just a subtle maltiness. Aftertaste is left with an alcoholic kick, but some of the soweetness is still noticeable. Overall, this beer is better than the average and has an excellent aroma. I'm very luck you try this one! On the positive side, the yeast character is strong, spicy; on the ther side, it's a tad sweeter than I'd like tonight (hot evening in Italy); it also has floral and fruity esters. Very good

Hazy honey colour. Aroma of vanilla, honey. Mellow flavour, cane sugar, with a hint of honey and vanilla, no bitterness, and just a bit of warming alcohol. Interesting evolution.

Hazy golden color; short head retention. Mature malt aroma, lightly oxidised, honeish; it reminds me of some Sherry, showing some sign of age, but not extreme. Surprisingly, it still has a good body structure, enough sugars; sweet malt flavor; strong bitterness; there is a pleasant alcohol perception, not too high (as it may otherwise happen with old beers). I'm quite surprised to note that this beer aged well.

Golden colour, thin collar, nice perlage. Malt, alcohol in the nose, not outstanding; it gets more interesting when warmer: ananas and other fruits. Really strong flavour, of malt and hop, the alcohol remains surprisingly hidden; in waves it's alternatevely rather sweet or really bitter.
