Bottled@Monks Café Sveavägen, Stockholm. Reddish amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is caramel malts, big sweetness, some slight fudge and also mild leathery notes. Flavour is metallic, mildly leathery, some caramel malts, nuts and mild fudge. Quite pleasant brew, but could do with a little bit more complexity.

12oz bottle. Deep amber-brown color. Fluffy off-white head. Doesn’t really taste like it could be any more than 7%, so it definitely does a good job of hiding the alcohol. Smooth and malt centered, with some alcohol warmed amber malt nuances. Mild touch of vanilla perhaps in the aftertaste. Rather excellent example of a Scottish Ale, not thick and overbearing like most US examples.

Loose bottles at the former Sam’s; one sent to MrBunn below. Brown beer body. Head stays about one inch thick while pouring, so swirl of bubbles beneath put on a bit of a show. Malty, slightly herbal smell. and a bit of medicinal note that I often get with malty bottled beers. Taste is similarly full of malt and just a bit of phenol or peat. Some fruity ale esters, close to pear in my mind. Some sludge left in the bottle. I doubt Sand Creek can bottle condition, probably just some sediment. Taste and texture stay happy all the way through the bottle. The Sand Creek folks need more love, and more distribution round here.
